As the design of the new school is progressing, the potential to serve over 140 kids in our fulltime program and dozens more in short-term programming for our waitlist families is becoming more and more real. A facility like this, combined with our staff of dedicated, Christ-centered teachers and therapists, will change the lives of so many kids and families.
It is such an exciting time for us at LLH. We feel so blessed that we have a front-row seat as God uses this community to provide for these special kids and their families in bigger and bigger ways.
Now is the time for you to consider what role you want to play in this story.
Once we have the conceptual design, we’ll begin fundraising for the building construction. As discussed below, this is going to be a tall ask and will require the help of so many. But a huge plus of such an undertaking is that the opportunities for you to get involved are great. Yes, this will take money, but it will also take labor, materials, and professional services of all kinds; it will take folks sharing the story about what LLH has done and is doing; and it will take prayer covering it all. Without support in each role, this project will not be possible.
Please let Wesley Mockbee or anybody here at LLH know how you’d like to get involved.
Since the original post below, we’ve added more than 50 families to the waitlist. The need continues to grow.

Why You Should Support This Project
We need more space, and we need the right space. Our kids, and their families, deserve it. To get there, we’re going to need help!
God has blessed Little Light House with 40 beautiful kids and their families, but that is our full capacity, and we have a growing waitlist of families wanting desperately to attend. As of today, over 100 children and their families are on our waitlist. These families typically wait a minimum of 18 months for a spot in our program. We have been adding an average of eight families a month to our list. At this rate, our waitlist could be close to 200 by the end of this school year. That’s 200 families who need and want our services, but who cannot take advantage.
Since opening our doors in 2006, we have been in gifted space at four different churches. As our program has needed to grow and expand to serve more families, opportunities have opened in facilities that have welcomed us. We are extremely grateful for each of these spaces. But these spaces were not designed for our kids.
As important as the amount of space is the type of space. We believe God is calling Little Light House, at this time, to invest in a space that is designed and constructed to best meet the needs of these amazing children. This must be done through significant renovations or new construction. We have considered many current buildings, but none fit our kids’ unique needs. So, our plan is to build a state-of-the-art facility to meet their needs.
While we know that the time is now for us to take on a project like this, we also know that the task is enormous.
A building designed to serve 100+ kids ages birth to six with special needs will be expensive to build. Also, to ensure that our foundational and biblical principles with God at the center remain unfiltered and available to all children, we will continue to accept no government funding while remaining tuition-free. Also, Little Light House never takes on debt. As such, all funds needed for construction will need to be raised before we break ground on the building.
We have been taking steps to ready ourselves for a new space. Over the last 2 years, as the waitlist has doubled, we have concentrated our efforts on increasing our revenue to prepare for the expansion of our program. Due to those efforts and the incredible generosity of our donors, we’re well ahead of last years’ operational fundraising.
But this building project will require the help of you and others who share our belief that these special children, their families, and our community deserve the best and should be given every chance to develop as God wills.
If you are interested in joining us, we would love to meet with you.

I joined Little Light House in June of 2023 because I know firsthand the impact that this ministry can have both on kids with special needs and their families. I know how important it is for parents to have a ministry like LLH who see each child as perfect, just the way God made them, and who are so eager to come alongside parents in however that looks for a particular child. I also know what it’s like to be at the end of the waitlist and to be told that it will be a long time before you will have a spot in the program (and the waitlist was much shorter when our daughter got on it). Finally, I know what it’s like to have a child attend LLH. I’ve seen our daughter grow and develop over the last year and I’ve been able to experience the community that LLH provides for the whole family.
I left the law practice to join Little Light House because I wanted to partner with LLH as we seek a bigger, better suited place to serve these and so many more children, and their families, for the decades to come. For the 13 years prior to joining Little Light House, I was a litigation attorney, spending the last 11 of those years primarily in construction law. I would love nothing more than to put that experience to use for the LLH in a construction project. If you are interested in hearing more about our dream for a new space or already know that you want to partner with us, we would love to meet with you. |
