Our Story

The Little Light House Story

Steeped in a tradition of academic and therapeutic excellence, the Little Light House is a tuition-free Developmental Center that for over three decades has been making a difference in the lives of hundreds of children with special needs. Founded in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the Little Light House opened its first satellite school in Central Mississippi, in January of 2006. Located in a beautiful new facility on the North Shore in Rankin County, the Little Light House – Central Mississippi is financially and operationally independent of its parent school in Tulsa.

Our Children

The Little Light House serves children age birth through six with special needs. Our students come from a variety of religious and ethnic backgrounds, and have been diagnosed with developmental delays resulting from physically and mentally challenging conditions. Their disabilities include Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Hydrocephaly, Autism, and a range of other disorders.

Three Classes, 20 Children (so far)

Having raised over $730,000 since opening in January 2006, the Little Light House has grown to three tuition free classes, serving 20 students. “God has truly blessed the Little Light House through the generosity of many individuals, businesses and churches, says Executive Director Maureen Harbinson. “We give Him the credit for working through people of all ages and abilities. Gifts from $10 to $25,000 have all come together to make this possible.”

Not only has God worked to expand this ministry, He has also blessed the work of our teachers and therapists. Since opening, many have learned to walk read, tell their numbers and overcome major barriers to eating. Some have transitioned into a preschool for typically developing children, and all are are making new friends. The list of accomplishments goes on every day.

Our guiding scripture is:
